Sarah Lopez
Soprano

An exquisite artist, soprano, Sarah Lopez has graced many stages of
Southern California singing opera, oratorio and Musical Theater. The Los Angeles Times
described her voice as “sincere, luscious with rich, well-rounded arching phrases.” in her performance of Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi at the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion

Early in her career, Ms. Lopez was honored as the first place winner of the Young Artist of the Future for the City of Los Angeles, and a finalist in the Metropolitan Opera Auditions.   She has soloed with the finest Southern California symphony orchestras, including: the San Fernando Valley Symphony under the direction of Harold Rosen, USC symphony Orchestra, La Jolla Symphony, Palomar College and Mira Costa College Orchestras.  On a more popular venue, she sang with the Glenn Miller Orchestra for the opening of the London Bridge, the half-time for the Pro Bowl.  Internationally, Ms. Lopez has performed art song and chamber music with renowned conductors Nicholas Harnoncourt and David Wilcox of Kings College in Vienna, Austria and St. Mark’s Cathedral in Venice, Italy.  She has had the privilege of singing with internationally acclaimed accompanists Dalton Baldwin and Gerald Moore.  Her Musical Theater experience includes leading roles in Carousel, The Sound of Music, Carnival, South Pacific and many others.   
Dr. Lopez will be performing on the 2008 Christmas program with the Mira Costa College Choral under the direction of Arlie Langager and is currently preparing a major role in the teen horror musical, Bay of Blood, written and directed by Geoff Parks, due to begin filming in Spring 2009.

Education
Dr. Lopez received her Ph.D. from UCSD studying Lullabies and Playsongs and their effects on Newborn Infants.  Dr. Lopez previously earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Voice Performance from USC where she graduated cum laude, and received the most outstanding senior award for vocal performance.  She continues to study Alexander Technique with Dominique Jacques.

  • Esther Andreas (Metropolitan Opera);
  • Gerard Souzay (most famous French chanson singer),
  • Gunther Theuring (German Baritone who played opposite Fritz Wunderlich in such operas as Mozart's Magic Flute);
  • Beverly Ogdon and accompanists Gwedolyn Kodolfsky,
  • Dalton Baldwin,
  • Gerald Moore
  • James Low

Dr. Lopez is a Certified member of the LiFT Network of Listening Fitness Instructors (1999). She is a member of  the following associations:

  • The National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and the local San Diego Chapter. 
  • California Teachers Association (CTA)
  • National Education Association (NEA)
