BOy SIngingKnowledge & Accomplishments
Dr. Lopez is a renowned a master teacher who brings her exceptional musicianship, artistry and knowledge of the voice to the benefit of her students.  Dr. Lopez’ teaching style naturally brings out the beauty, expressiveness and power of her students’ voice.  She emphases the body as the instrument using her knowledge of the Alexander Technique, Feldenkreis and Movement Therapy to effectively create and transform the voice with great ease and resonance.   Combined with her training and clinical work with the Tomatis based Listening Fitness Training (LiFT), she trains and opens the ear as well.  Dr. Lopez combines these modern techniques with classical Bel canto training and the treatices of the 17th and 18th century voice teachers, to bring the “secrets” and wisdom of the past to bear on the technological demands of today’s singer.

Her enthusiastic and contagious passion for singing began when she started voice lessons at the age of ten.  Born to musical parents, she studied piano and violin from age four.  Having taught her first student at age eleven, Dr. Lopez has always enjoyed the relational aspects of teaching and found much satisfaction in the success of her students.  In addition to the building foundational vocal techniques, Dr. Lopez teaches the singer how to think and relate to the voice like a singer.  Based on heartfelt impulse and intuition she directs the students to trust their voices and to fully express themselves with body and soul.  Dr. Lopez teaches all ages, enjoying and developing each person’s program of study to reach their goals.

Dr. Lopez has students with great accomplishments including Broadway, movie and television professionals, as well as opera, pop, rock and folk singers.  She also teaches those that use their voice and ear training for other endeavors including voice teachers, conductors, public speakers, business professionals, ministers, ministers of music, teachers and trainers.

Whatever your goal, Dr. Lopez will utilize the time and resources to help you realize your highest aspirations of performance with confidence and poise.

ClassesTechniques & Methods
Dr. Lopez has trained on many styles and can draw on these to help her students reach their full vocal potential in the style and direction of their choosing.  The following is a list of techniques she uses as part of her training:

  • Bel Canto techniques of Corri, Porpora, Cravelli, Vaccai, Concone, Lamperti,
  • Garcia, master teachers of the 17th&18th centuries, who emphasized articulating vocal ornaments according to the harmonic context of the music.
  • Operatic, classical training from Esther Andreas (USC, Metropolitan Opera); Oren Brown (Juliard); Beverly Ogdon (UCSD).
  • Contemporary methods such as Melissa Cross & Mary Sauders.
  • Alexander Technique integrates the mind/body as a whole.
  • Certification of Listening Fitness Training (LiFT), a sound-stimulation program based on the work of Dr. Alfred Tomatis, French ear, nose and throat specialist who concluded that “We sing with the ear.”  Listening Fitness Training (see link) is an adjunct program to singing lessons offering a means of opening and conditioning the musical ear in two to three months.
  • Sight-reading and musicianship are a part of the training.
  • Relative pitch is taught and maintained

These advanced techniques are complemented with her methods to:

  • Coach character interpretation, stage presence, body movement and mental imagery.
  • Develop full artistic play.
  • Develop articulation and diction for speaking, acting, singing in an intimate, authentic and clear way, according to the style, language and audience.
  • Develop balanced and expressive collaboration between instrumentalists, accompanists and singers.
  • Vocal Therapy for minor vocal injury, readjustment after surgery, trauma, tension, stress, poor habits of singing, performance anxiety (stage fright) or, weak speakers and singers.
